Importing Customers & Vehicles

Bulk-import your customers and vehicles from a CSV

The import tool lets you bring in a list of customers and vehicles from a spreadsheet in one go. It's the fastest way to move your data across from another system when you're getting started.

The import page isn't in the menu

Go to /import by typing it directly into the address bar. There's no link to it from the sidebar.

Who can use this: Owner and Manager roles only.

Prepare your CSV

Export your existing data as a CSV file from your current system. Column names don't need to match Pistonlog's fields exactly — you'll map them in the next step.

Include at least one column that identifies the vehicle (registration plate) and one that identifies the customer (name, phone, or email). All other columns are optional.

Run the import

Open the import page

Type /import into the address bar and press Enter.

Upload your CSV

Click Choose file and select your CSV. The file loads a preview of the first few rows so you can confirm it looks right before mapping.

Map your columns

For each column in your file, use the dropdown to select the matching Pistonlog field — for example, map your "Registration" column to Vehicle Registration, or "Client Name" to Customer Name. Skip any columns you don't want to import by leaving them unmapped.

Run the import

Click Import. Pistonlog processes each row, creates the customer and vehicle records, and links them together. A summary shows how many records were imported and flags any rows that couldn't be processed.

Upload a CSV, map your columns, and run the import

Duplicate customers aren't automatically merged. If a customer already exists in Pistonlog, the import will create a second record. Check for duplicates after importing and remove any extras manually.
