The Messages list at /messages is your inbox-style view of every team conversation you're part of. Jobcard threads, direct messages, and group chats live side by side, sorted with the most-recently-active at the top.
What's on the list
- Per row: a conversation title (the jobcard's title plus a reference badge for jobcard threads, the other person's name for DMs, the group name for groups), the last message preview, and the timestamp. The preview is prefixed with who wrote it, and your own messages are prefixed "You:" so you can tell at a glance whether the ball is in your court.
- Search: a free-text box across conversation titles, jobcard references, and the latest message preview. It filters the conversations already loaded rather than querying the server, so it's instant.
- Filter tabs: All, Jobcards, Direct, Groups. These appear only if you have the
messages.directpermission. Without it every conversation you can see is a jobcard thread, so there'd be nothing to filter, and the search box sits on its own.
Click a row to open the conversation in the right-hand pane.
Nothing here is marked unread
There's no unread badge, bold row, or counter anywhere in the list. Conversations are ordered by recent activity and that's your only cue. Mentions and direct messages reach you through the notification bell instead.

- Jobcard threads — threads you've posted in or been @-mentioned in (posting or being mentioned adds you to the thread)
- Direct messages — DMs between you and one teammate; starting one requires the
messages.directpermission - Groups — named group chats you've been added to
The same jobcard threads also appear on the jobcard's Messages tab. The list is just the cross-cutting inbox view.
The jobcard tab shows more than this list does
A jobcard thread only reaches this list once you're part of it, by posting or being mentioned. Opening the jobcard itself is different: anyone who can view messages in that garage can read the thread from the jobcard's Messages tab, whether or not they've ever posted in it. Treat a jobcard thread as visible to the workshop, not as a private conversation between the people currently in it.
Notifications
A mention notification fires when a teammate @-mentions you in a jobcard thread or group chat, and every direct message you receive fires a direct_message notification. Plain replies in jobcard threads and groups don't trigger a notification — the message just lands in the relevant conversation thread. Push notifications fire on mobile (when installed) for the same events.
