The Messages tab on a jobcard is an internal chat thread tied to that jobcard. Anything posted there is visible to the team — not to the customer. Use it for the kind of in-flight coordination that should be kept against the work, not lost in a separate chat app.
What you'd post there
- "Found the leak, parts on order"
- "Customer rang — confirm 2pm pickup"
- "Need a hand with the timing belt after lunch"
- "Diagnosis done, see comments"
Mentions
@-mention a teammate and they get a Pistonlog notification. Useful when you need someone specific to read a message rather than leaving it for whoever opens the jobcard next.
Customers don't see this
Jobcard message threads are workshop-only. They never email or text out to the customer, and the customer can't reply into them. For customer-facing communications:
- Want them to know an MOT's due? Use a reminder.
- Want them to leave feedback after the work? Send a review request.
- Want to send them an invoice or payment link? Use Square email/SMS.
Permissions
messages.view to read the thread, messages.create to post. All four default roles have both — even technicians, on the workshop floor or mobile.
